Primary 5 Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day and World Poetry Day🌈📝

20th Mar 2026

Primary 5 had a busy day as we celebrated both World Down Syndrome Day and World Poetry Day.

To mark World Down Syndrome Day, we came to school wearing odd socks as a fun and colourful way to celebrate individuality and remind us that everyone is unique. We spent time discussing how our differences make us special and important, and the children shared thoughtful ideas about kindness, inclusion, and respect. We also designed and created some lovely posters to help spread these positive messages.

For World Poetry Day, we explored similes and used them to write beautiful spring-themed poems. The children showed great creativity, describing sights, sounds, and feelings of spring in imaginative ways. We also challenged ourselves by writing haiku poems, carefully choosing words to fit the traditional 5–7–5 syllable structure.
