Confirmation 2021

13th Jun 2021
On Saturday 12th June 40 Primary 7 pupils were Confirmed in Our Lady Of Mercy Church Lavey.  The Celebrant was Parish Priest Fr Eamon Graham. Due to Coronavirus restrictions, the classes were separated into two ceremonies, one at 11am and one at 1pm. Taking cognisance of the fact that the children could not be with all their friends, nor could their family members attend, Fr Graham asked the children to wave into the webcam so that everyone watching at home could see them.  This touching gesture proved very popular because only their parents and sponsor could be with the children in the church. Normally all the school staff attends Confirmation in support of the pupils who are in their final year of schooling, yet again, due to Covid restrictions only the Primary 7 teachers, assistants and the principal were in attendance. Both ceremonies went off without a hitch, as the children had practised hard in the two weeks prior to the ceremony.  There were several displays of pupil work showing the detailed preparation for this special occasion.  Every pupil had a role to play in the ceremony, either as readers or in the Offertory Procession, every child performing outstandingly. Liturgical music was provided by school music teacher Mr Sean Scullion with Miss Oonagh Clarke singing and playing guitar.   We are very grateful to Fr Graham for making the occasion run so smoothly and for his spiritual support in the run-up to Confirmation. Also, our sincere thanks to Parish Secretary Patrick Boyle who sanitised the church after each practice and between ceremonies on the day.   Well done P7 - you are an absolute credit to your school and your parish!
