Fifty Fabulous Years

1st Sep 2022

This morning as our pupils arrived for their first day of term, we saw exited faces, heard tales of summer holidays and Cul Camp. We looked at the gaps left by missing teeth, admired new school bags and trainers, said wow to all the ‘back to school haircuts’ and were surprised by how much some children had grown, and this year we have a record number of broken bones and plaster casts!

However, amidst all the catching up and welcoming our 38 new pupils we reminisced about the pupils who walked through our gates in 1972 when the school opened. What was that morning like fifty years ago? We bet that some things were the same, teeth had fallen out, children had grown and there were some dodgy back to school haircuts!

But for all the children who walked into their new school in 1972, it must have been a very exciting day, full of promise and hope. We wonder where those children are now? Many have continued to live their lives in Lavey, others have emigrated all over the world.

So if you have memories of St Brigid’s opening in 1972 please share them with us. You walked into a brand new school; today our children walked into a fabulous golden balloon display (thanks Clodagh)….

St Brigid’s PS serving the children of Lavey for 50 years and so many of those children have grown and contributed a great deal to our parish, our lives, our world.

May this school continue to grow and to shape lives for the better, today, tomorrow, forever.
